COVID-19 is still a big global public health problem. At present, more than 40 million of world populations are already affected. There is still no vaccine for prevention of the disease. The pathogenic virus, SARS-CoV-2, still causes the problem in any age groups and sexes. The lockdown and strict control of population migration are the widely preventive measure for containment of COVID-19. In a recent publication from Thailand, it shows that the COVID-19 strict control might result in decreased incidence of other common respiratory infections and it was assumed that the strict control for COVID-19 is useful for controlling of other respiratory diseases.[1] Nevertheless, that report discusses on a short period of observation during summer and it is not possible to assess the exact situation of the problem in winter where many respiratory virus infections occur. Here, the authors would like to share information from the country that is the second country in chronological order of COVID-19 pandemic.[2] In this country, the strict COVID-19 control has been implemented since March 2020, and the specific legal control has been applied without withdrawal until present (November, 2020). Social distancing, closure of public places, limitation of movement, routine body temperature, thermoscanning screening, and mandatory facemask wearing are important measures. According to the preliminary observation,[1] the COVID-19 has been successfully controlled after a few months of strict control and there is also a decreased of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The null incidence of COVID-19 was observed in 3 months before there is a reemergence in the country but the total intra-country infection is below 10 (without pediatric case). However, there is a rapid increasing of RSV infection when winter (end of October) starts. Many children are already got RSV infection. This might imply that the strict COVID-19 control might not have successful cross protection to RSV infection. In fact, there are many points to be discussed on pediatric RSV and COVID-19 infection. In pediatric population, COVID-19 is usually asymptomatic and if there is no active case screening, the passive observed incidence might be very low, which is not a true incidence. This is different from RSV infection that is usually serious in affected children. The standard COVID-19 prevention for adult might not have good effectiveness in the prevention of respiratory disease in pediatric population.
